Abstract

The impact of seasonal variation on the spermatozoa reproductive cycle ofHemantura walgo in Western North of Arabian Gulf from January 2016 toDecember 2017 was studied. A total 225 individuals males of H. walga werecollected using beach net. Gonads Somatic index (GSI) was high during May (10.1)and September (9.98) and the lowest values were recorded during on February, Julyand October with their values were 0.85, 1.21 and 1.43 respectively. Mature maleswere noticed during May and September which indicates there are two reproductionperiods for H. walga during the year. The relationship between weight and widthdesk of H. walga was also investigated and generally demonstrated positiveallometric growth (b > 3) for this species Thus, this study supplies to a betterunderstand of seasonal variation on the spermatozoa reproductive cycle of H.walgo. The findings of this study also are essential to the estimation, protection andmanagement of H. walgo , in addition to providing plan for the improvement ofconservation strategies

Bioaccumulation of heavy metals in Acanthopagrus latus collected from Iraqi marine waters

Abstract

Concentrations of cadmium, cobalt, cupper, iron, manganese and nickel were determined in four organs (liver, gills, ovaries and muscles) of Acanthopagrus latus, which collected from Iraqi marine waters during the period between November 2010 and October 2011. Heavy metals have been determined by means of Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry. The fish average weight was 61.2 g and the average length was 144 mm. Nickel showed the highest values in liver, gills and muscles during spring (201.19, 190.00 and 148.00 µg/gm dry weight), respectively. While cobalt showed the lower value (1.12 µg/gm dry weights) in the liver and cadmium showed its lower value (1.23 µg/gm dry weights) in the gills during winter. Muscles showed constant levels of heavy metals, it showed the lower values (not detected) during winter. Ovaries showed high levels for all heavy metals during spring, but its value still instable during the other seasons. This study showed that the concentration of heavy metals distributed in the organs was as follows: liver > gills > muscles > ovaries, while the heavy metals concentration had been distributed during the seasons as follow: winter > spring > autumn > summer.

درست تراكيز العناصر الثقيلة النحاس والكادميوم والكوبلت والحديد والمنغنيز والنيكل في اربعة اجزاء من جسم أسماك الشانك Acanthopagrus latus (كبد، غلاصم، مبايض، عضلات) المصطادة من السواحل البحرية العراقية للفترة من تشرين الثاني 2010 إلى تشرين الأول 2011، قيست تركيز العناصر بواسطة جهاز مطياف الامتصاص الذريFlame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer، وكانت الأسماك بمعدل الطول (144) ملم ومعدل الوزن (61.2) غم، اظهرت النتـائج ان أعلى القيـم فـي كـبد الأسماك خلال فصل الربيع لتراكيز عنصر النيكل وسجل 201.19 مايكروغم/غم وزن جاف في حين كانت اقل القيم كانت لعنصر الكوبلت 1.12 مايكروغم/غم في الشتاء، اما في الغلاصم فقد سجل أعلى تركيز لعنصر النيكل 190 مايكروغم/غم وزن جاف في الربيع وأقل تركيز سجل في الشتاء للكادميوم أذ كان 1.23 مايكروغم/غم، وفي العضلات بقي مستوى التركيز ثابت تقريبا أذ كانت أعلى القيم لعنصر النيكل اذ سجل 148 مايكروغم/غم في فصل الربيع وسجلت ادنى القيم خلال فصل الشتاء وكانت دون مستوى تحسس الجهاز، اما المناسل فقد سجلت ارتفاعا فقط في فصل الربيع لجميع العناصر وبقية الفصول بقيت متذبذبة القيم ودون مستوى تحسس الجهاز، وبينت الدراسة ان ترتيب الأعضاء الخازنة للعناصر حسب التالي كبد < غلاصم< عضلات< مبايض، اما تركيز العناصر خلال الفصول كان حسب الترتيب شتاء> ربيع> خريف> صيف.

Abstract

Hysterothylacium is one of the most important nematode parasites parasitizing fish, and it's the most diverse species nematodes of marine parasites, these species attach to the intestinal wall via their mouth lips adaptation. In the present study, seven out of 56 fish specimens (12.5 %) were found to be infected by the adult worms of Greasy grouper fishes Orangespotted grouper Epinephelus coioides (Forsskål, 1775)from locations of marine coastal water, Arabian Gulf, Iraq. A new recorded of Hysterothylacium spp. collected are morphologically described, genetically and Sccaning Electron Microscope (SEM) images for new systematic observations, on dorsal labium, sub ventral labia, posterior end of a the female and the male. Based on the study of the gene sequencer data and SEM images, it will be suggested that species are H. persicum. The study provides us some data on the taxonomy of these parasites in the Arabian Gulf. The gross examination of the fish's intestine food items and the Relationships of fish length, In this study showing that the length ranges for adult infected were 25-45 cm long, and the major food items found in the stomach were a Largest group of miscellaneous of fishes length more than 25 cm , whereas crustaceans miscellaneous parts of animal body, i.e. appendages, chela, parts of the carapace of crustaceans were found in stomachs in all the month including except some of them in stomach of length less than 20 cm , it was clear that the 25-45cm ctotal length feed mainly on fish that explain fishes are the second intermediate host of IV larval stage of nematodes. In the present reported can consider that the Epinephelus coioides as a new host for Hysterothylacium persicum and a newly recorded in Iraqi marine water . The aim of the current study is to diagnose and study new species of parasites that belong to the genus throughout the morphological studies along with the image data selected for SEM and sequence and combined with the other species of Hysterothylacium that reside in the Iraqi marine water and the relationships of fish length, food items and parasite infection.

Abstract

The concentrations of heavy metals (iron, copper, nickel, lead and cobalt) were studied in many organs (muscle, liver, gonads and gills) of Lethrinus nebulosus fish hunted from the Iraqi marine waters, as well as, the water and sediments of the area. Metals concentration were measured by Flame atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The results showed that the highest values were recorded for iron 286.65 µg /g (dry weight) and the least concentration was for lead 1.74 µg /g (dry weight), nickel , copper and cobalt recorded (6.29, 9.89 and 19.71) µg /g (dry weight) respectively. Results showed that fish body parts that accumulated the metals were as follows: gills, liver, gonads and muscle, whereas the sequence of metals in fish body was as follows: iron, cobalt, copper, nickel and lead, whereas the sequence of metals according to season were: summer, spring, winter, autumn, winter. The results showed that the highest heavy metals concentrations of the sediment in winter was1250.98 65 µg /g (dry weight), while the lowest concentrations of heavy metals in water, was for lead and nickel 0.43 and 0.18 µg /L respectively, and in iron, cobalt and copper 4.11, 3.93 and 3.38 µg /L respectively.

درست تراكيز العناصر الثقيلة (الحديد والنحاس والنيكل والرصاص والكوبالت) في عدة أعضاء من جسم أسماك الشعري Lethrinus nebulosus (العضلات والكبد والمناسل والغلاصم) المصطادة من المياه البحرية العراقية فضلاً عن دراسة العناصر في مياه ورواسب المنطقة المذكورة، قيس تركيز العناصر بواسطة جهاز مطياف الامتصاص الذريFlame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer، أظهرت نتـائج الدراسة أن أعلى القيـم سجلت لعنصر الحديد 286.65 مايكروغرام/غم وزن جاف وأقل تركيز لعنصر الرصاص 1.74 مايكروغرام/غم وزن جاف، وسجل كل من النيكل والنحاس والكوبالت 6.29 و9.89 و19.71 مايكروغم/غم وزن جاف بالترتيب نفسه. بينت النتائج أن الأجزاء التي راكمت العناصر كانت على الترتيب التالي: غلاصم > كبد > مناسل > عضلات ، أما ترتيب تركيز العناصر في جسم الاسماك كان على النحو التالي: حديد> كوبالت> نحاس> نيكل> رصاص، وكان ترتيب الفصول التي راكمت العناصر الثقيلة على النحو الاتي: صيف> ربيع> شتاء> خريف> شتاء. وبينت النتائج ان أعلى تراكيز للعناصر المعدنية للرواسب كان في فصل الشتاء 1250.98 مايكروغرام/غم وزن جاف، أما تركيز العناصر المعدنية بالمياه فقد بينت النتائج أن أقل تركيز في الماء كان لعنصري الرصاص والنيكل 0.43 و0.18 مايكروغرام/ لتر في حين كانت التراكيز في الحديد والكوبالت والنحاس 4.11 و3.93 و3.38 مايكروغرام/ لتر لكل منهما على التوالي.

Abstract

A total 15 of Pseudogrillotia spratti Campbell and Beveridge, 1993 (Cestoda: Trypanorhyncha) have been found in body cavity of three species of carangid fishes, Carangiodes armatus, C. malabaricus and Megalaspis cordyla which were collected from Iraqi marine waters. The parasite was recorded for the first time in the Iraqi marine waters, and C. armatus, C. malabaricus and M. cordyla are new hosts for this parasite.

وقد وجدت في تجويف الجسم من ثلاثة أنواع من الأسماك carangid، Carangiodes armatus، C. malabaricus وMegalaspis cordyla التي تم جمعها من المياه البحرية العراقية: ما مجموعه 15 من Pseudogrillotia spratti كامبل وبيفيريدج، 1993 (Trypanorhyncha الشريطية). تم تسجيل الطفيل للمرة الأولى في المياه البحرية العراقية، وجيم armatus، C. malabaricus وم cordyla من المضيفين جديد لهذا الطفيلي.
