Abstract

Aims: The aim of the present study is to investigate if short term therapy with diclofenac sodium of interferes with the time course of alveolar wound healing in rabbits. Materials and Methods: The sample included twelve rabbits; 6 rabbits received interamuscular injections of diclofenac sodium (10 mg/kg/day), one day before extraction, at a day of extraction and 4 days after extraction of the right mandibular incisors and 6 rabbits received interamuscular injections of normal saline. The animals were sacrificed in each group at 7, 14 and 21 days after tooth extraction. Results: The present results showed that the effect of diclofenac treatment caused no signifcant decrease in bone formation of socket healing. Conclusion: Histological study of short term therapy with diclofenac sodium after tooth extraction caused non-significant decrease in bone formation of extraction sockets healing in rabbits.

Abstract

Most researchers concentrate their studies on the design, stress and pressure distributions of the prosthetic socket. A little attention is considered for the stiffness of the various materials of the prosthetic sockets. Prosthetic laminated sockets in Iraq are costly to be manufactured while polypropylene socket is relatively cheap in comparing with the laminates. Experimental study is conducted to compare the stiffness of five prosthetic sockets made of different materials. Compression, three point flexural and tensile tests are implemented by the Testometric machine. The laminate sockets give better results in compression than polypropylene. Polypropylene gives good results in bending compared with the laminate sockets. When the socket loads are mainly in compression i.e. the low activity level patients, it seems that any of the tested sockets could be used, however, when the load will be not only in compression but in flexion as well i.e. high activity patients, socket No.1 and 5 could be used

يركز معظم الباحثين دراساتهم على تصميم و توزيع الاجهادات و الضغوط للوقب الصناعي البديل(عن طرف الانسان المبتور) ،و يكون الاهتمام قليلاً بجساءة(stiffness) المواد المصنوع منها الوقب البديل. ان سعر الاوقاب الطبقية(المصنوعة من عدة طبقات من الالياف)البديلة يكون غالياً جداًً مقارنة بالوقب المصنوع من مادة البولي بروبلين الذي يكون سعره زهيداً. أجريت دراسة عملية لغرض مقارنة جساءة خمسة أنواع من الاوقاب البديلة مصنوعة من مواد مختلفة. أجري اختبار الضغط، واختبار الانحناء و الشدّ بماكنة Testometric. من خلال النتائج وجد أنه الوقب الطبقي يمتلك مقاومة للتشوه الناتج من الحمل الانضغاطي اكبر من تلك للبولي بروبلين (جساءة الوقب الطبقي في حالة الانضغاط اعلى من تلك للبولي بروبلين) و أن الأخير يمتلك مقاومة للتشوه الناتج من الحمل ألانثنائي اكبر من كل انواع الوقب الطبقي عدا الوقب رقم 5. ان الاشخاص ذوي فعالية المشي الواطئة يكون اغلب التحميل على الوقب انضغاطي وبهذا يمكن استخدام اي من الاوقاب لانه قيم الجساءة الانضغاطية نوعاً ما متقاربة مع افضلية للوقب الطبقي، بينما الاشخاص ذوي الفعالية العالية الذي يكون اغلب التحميل على الوقب انثنائي(flexural)يتم استخدام الوقب الطبقي رقم 5 (الذي يمتلك اعلى الطبقات) ووقب البولي بروبيلين ذو سمك 5ملم.

Abstract

In order to initiate a database on materials properties of typical laminationused in above knee prosthetic limb socket fourteen group of different laminationmaterials layers are manufactured using perlon and fiber glass and acrylic resin.The effect of increasing and decreasing of perlon and fiber glass layers onmechanical and physical properties are examined subjected the eighty twomanufacturing sample of the different fourteen group of lamination to tensile andflexural test .Results show that the lamination which was layup from three layers of perlon plustwo layers of fiber glass plus three layers of perlon gives the optimum mechanicalproperties . Comparing this lamination with the standard lamination used inBaghdad center of five layers of perlon plus two layers of fiber glass plus fivelayers of perlon it can be seen that ,in spite of the big reduction in perlon layersform ten to six layers the yield stress increased with 14.75% while ultimatestrength remains at the same value and bending stress decreased with 1.3% only . Itis recommend to use this type of lamination for the layup the above knee socketbecause it meets the requirement of good socket design for acceptable mechanicalproperties and its minimizing the cost of socket lamination to suitable cost value.Also it was found that increasing the fiber glass layers from zero to two layerswith fixing perlon layers leaded to increased in( E y ult s ,s , , flex flex s ,E ) with(40%,30.4%,110.5% 36.4%and 20.4%) respectively. At the same time the resultsshow that the lamination group of sandwich lay up during which the layers ofperlon distributed equally (homogeneously) on each side of the central fiber glasslayers improved the mechanical properties set ( E y ult s ,s , , flex flex s ,E ) with ((21-59)%,(12.4-66.4)%,(46.6-150)%,(5.2-60.2)%,(27.5-44.8)%) respectively comparedwith the others group of unequally distributed lamination .

لبتر (Socket) لغرض انشاء قاعدة بيانات لخصائص المواد المستخدمة في تصنيع وقب فوق الركبة للاطراف السفلية فقد تم تصنيع اربع عشر وقب باستخدام قالب تم تصنيعة خصيصا لدراسة المواصفات الم يكانيكية بحيث ان كل وقب يختلف عن الاخر اما بعدد الطبقات او بنوع المادة المستخدمة في التصنيع .وايضا تم دراسة تاثير زيادة عدد طبقات كل من ال على المواصفات الميكانيكية والفيزيائية للوقب بتثبيت احدهما وزيادة (Fiber glass) و (Perlon) الاخر ولتحقيق هذا الهدف فقد تم تصنيع اثنان وثمانون عينة فحصية تم فحصها فحصي الشدوالانحناء.وطبقتين من ال (Perlon) اظهرت النتائج ان الوقب المصنع باستخدام ثلاث طب قات من اليحقق المواصفات الميكانيكية المثالية وبمقارنة (Perlon) وثلاث طبقات من ال (Fiber glass)هذا الوقب مع الوقب المصنع في مركز بغداد للاطراف الاصطناعية والذي يتالف من خمسنجد (Perlon) وخمس طبقات من ال (Fiber glass) وطبقتين من ال (Perlon) طبقات من المن عشرة الى ستة فان اجهاد الخضوع ازدادت (Perlon) انه بالرغم من تقليص عدد طبقات القيمتة بنسبة % 14.75 بينما حافظ اجهاد مقاومة الشد على قيمتة وانخفض اجهاد الانحناءبمقدار % 1.3 فقط وعلية يوصى باستخدام هذا الوقب طالما انة يحقق متطلبات التصميم الناجحللوقب بمواصفات ميكانيكية مقبولة بالاضافة الى انة يقلل كلفة التصنيع.من الصفر الى اثنين وتثبيت عدد طبقات (Fiber glass) وجد ايضا انة بزيادة عدد طبقات ال(s flex ,Eflex ,s y ,sult , E ) فان هذا يقود الى زيادة في المواصفات الميكانكية (Perlon) ال 40%,30.4%,110.5% ) . وبنفس الوقت اظهرت النتائج ان 36.4%and بنسبة (% 20.4 الموزعة بالتساوي على جانبي طبقات ال (Perlon) الوقب الذي يصنع من عدد طبقات ال تزداد (s flex ,Eflex ,s y ,sult , E ) المركزية يتميز بمواصفات ميكانيكية (Fiber glass) ((21-59)%,(12.4-66.4)%,(46.6-150)%,(5.2-60.2)%,( قيمتها بنسبة تتراوح - 27.5 44.8 على التوالي مقارنة مع الوقب الذي يكون توزيع الط بقات فية غير متساوي او غير )%) متجانس

Abstract

Aims: To assess the clinical effect of topical preventive measures on the incdence of alveolar osteitis (dry socket) by inserting (either gelfoam sooked with ibuprofen suspension, or gelfoam sooked withmetronidazole suspension, or gelfoam alone) in the extraction socket following removal of lower posterior teeth. Materials and Methods: One hundred eighty patients were included in the present study, (86) males and (94) females aged between 13–65 years, they were divided randomly into four treatment groups. The first group included 43 patients (control –ve),who received no topical medication following extraction.Whereas, in the second (control +ve) group which comprised 44 patients, gelfoam alone was inserted in the socket of extraction. While in the third group, gelfoam impregnated with metronidazole suspension was placed in the extraction socket, this group included 50 patients.However 43 patients treated in the fourth group, where gelfoam sooked with ibuprofen suspension was packed into the socket following extraction. Results: Comparison of the incidence of dry socket amongthe study groups were performed. Statistical analysis revealed that the prevalence of dry socket were significantly affected by the sex and tooth number. The topical application of ibuprofen provided ahigher incidence of reduction in dry socket followed by metronidazole, while the application of gelfoam alone increased the incidence of this complication when compared with the remaining groups.Conclusion: This study showed that the topical ibuprofen suspension can be used as a prophylactic method to reduce the incidence of dry socket following removal of lower posterior teeth.

Abstract

Aims: To identify the clinical picture and the association between dry socket and severe postoperative development with one of the systemic risk factors (typhoid fever). Materials and Methods: Twenty adult (both sexes) patients attended dental clinic searching for different dental treatments were studied. The clinical picture of 6 months period study was evaluated by completing two case sheet forms. They were diagnosed having dry sockets and severe postoperative pain. Blood samples were taken for bacte-riological, serological and hematological study to diagnose typhoid fever. These tests included WAT, WFT, WBCs and blood culture. Results: Significant correlation existed between postoperative pain and typhoid fever examined by BC and the highest percentage was with dry socket (61.5%) followed by WFT (57.1%(, WAT (44.4%) using two tests for diagnosis showed that WFT and BC gave 97.9% positive for dry socket and Kappa test was 88%, while WAT and WBCs or WFT and WAT gave the least non significant correlation. Conclusion: There was a strong correlation between dry socket and typhoid fever and the most sensitive tests for diagnosis was BC followed by WFT, WBCs and WAT.

Abstract

Dry socket is one of the most common complications of tooth extraction especially after lower wisdom tooth removal. Many drugs have been used to decrease the incidence of this complication. The purpose of this study was to evaluate different drugs in prevention of dry socket. In this study 150 patients needs removal of lower wisdom tooth were included. The patients divided into five equal groups were and each group received different type of drug postoperatively. The patients were evaluated for the presence of dry socket in the 2nd, 5th, and 7th day after tooth extraction. The females were affected more than males in this study with 2.1: 1 ratio. The incidence of dry socket in the total number of the patients was 17.3%. The analysis of the data showed no significant relations between the five groups as the P value was > 0.05.The use of different drugs postoperative in this study showed no differences in the incidence of dry socket which high lighten the use of preventive measures to decrease the occurrences of such condition.

Abstract

The work presented in this paper was concerned to design a new remote control and monitoring system, which can be used for controlling the electrical devices at college/office and monitoring the clients' status by using the Virtual Private Network (VPN). The system is consists of server and multi clients and utilize VPN for establish a secret communication within internet network or enhanced wireless network. The server employed for controlling the remote devices which inherent with clients through serial interface. The interface circuit was designed to connect the serial port with the devices which are consisting of (Max238, UART, and CD4060) to complete the functions of interface. There are 8 pins for data output, which can produce up to 256 different control signal statuses. The mechanism of monitoring operation was achieved through executing two function: firstly, the files transfer (image or text) between sever and clients; secondly, monitoring the client status through server computer. For more security a new wireless enhanced network was built to implement the Virtual Private Network (VPN) which consists of four power nano station (5GHz) to establish transfer information for distance up to 35 Km. PPTP (Point to Point Tunneling Protocol), IPSec. (Internet Protocol Security) was configured to give secret authentication for virtual private network. Visual basic language was used to implement the frameworks (GUI) and socket connection.

العمل المقدم في البحث يهتم بتصميم نظام ألسيطرة والمراقبة عن بعد، والذي يستخدم للسيطرة على الأجهزة الكهربائية في الكلية /المكتب وكذلك مراقبة حالة حاسوب الزبون باستخدام الشبكة الظاهرية الخاصة . يتألف النظام من خادم وعدة زبائن ويتم استخدام الشبكة الظاهرية الخاصة لتأمين الاتصال السري ضمن شبكة الانترنت أو شبكة لا سلكية محسنة. يوظف حاسوب الخادم للسيطرة على الأجهزة البعيدة المتأصلة مع حواسيب الزبائن من خلال التوصيلة المتسلسلة. تم تصميم دائرة التعشيق لربط المنفذ المتسلسل مع الأجهزة والتي تتألف من (Max238, UART, and CD4060) لإكمال وظيفة التوصيلة. توجد 8 مسامير لإخراج البيانات والتي يمكن أن تنتج بحدود 256 إشارة سيطرة مختلفة. إلية عملية المتابعة أنجزت من خلال تنفيذ وظيفتين: الأولى، نقل الملفات (الصورية أو النصية) بين الخادم والزبائن. ثانيا، مراقبة حالة حاسوب الزبون من خلال الخادم. لزيادة الأمنية، شبكة لاسلكية محسنة تم بنائها لتنفيذ الشبكة الظاهرية الخاصة والتي تتألف من أربعة محطات إرسال (5GHz) لتأمين نقل البيانات لمسافة بحدود 35 كيلومتر. بروتوكول قناة الاتصال وبروتوكول الانترنت السري تم تشكيلهم لإعطاء التحقق السري للشبكة الظاهرية الخاصة. استخدمت لغة فيجوال بيسك لتنفيذ الواجهات واتصال المقبس.

Abstract

In this work, nine types of laminated composite materials used for experimental study to investigate the tensile and fatigue properties of partial foot prosthetic socket which fabricated by using vacuum pressure system . The composite material matrix were Lamination 80:20and reinforced with nine types of laminations (perlon, n-glass, fiber glass and carbon) by variation of thickness according to lamination. Results show that the mechanical properties were improved by increasing the two layers of carbon fiber, fiber glass and n-glass layers instead of zero layer with six layers of perlon lead to the increased in(yield strength σy, ultimate tensile strength σult and modules of elasticity E with (71% ,76% and 58%) respectively for carbon fiber, (20% , 19% and 40%) for fiber glass and ( 22% , 5.5% and 29. ) for n-glass. Results show that (3perlon+2carbon fiber+3perlon) gives the best value of mechanical properties and has higher Endurance limit stresses (σe) which increase lifetime for the patient . It is recommend to use this type of lamination for the layup partial foot prosthetic socket because it meets the demand lamination layers for acceptable mechanical properties and its minimizing the cost of socket lamination to suitable costing value.

Abstract

Background: Healing of a tooth extraction socket is a complex process involving tissue repair and regeneration. Itinvolves chemotaxis of appropriate cells into the wound, Transformation of undifferentiated mesenchymal cells toosteoprogenitor cells, proliferation and differentiation of committed bone forming cells, extracellular matrix synthesis,mineralization of osteoid, maturation and remodeling of bone. These cellular events are precisely controlled andregulated by specific signaling molecules. Some of these like transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), vascularendothelial growth factor (VEGF), bone morphogenetic proteins (BMP) and insulin like growth factors (IGF) are wellconserved proteins involved in the initial response to injury and repair in soft and hard tissue.Materials and Methods: 48 rabbits weighting an average of (2.5 - 3 kg) were used in this experimental study, and dividedinto 3 groups as follows; group A ( contains 16 healthy rabbits regarded as control group ) , Group B ( contains 16diabetic rabbits not received treatment ), group C ( contains 16 controlled diabetic rabbits received insulin as atreatment ), the lower incisor for each rabbits was extracted, after 2, 10, 20 and 30 days of healing periods afterscarification , the socket was analysed by immunohistochemical (IHC) estimation of growth factors : TGFbeta-3 , VEGF ,IGF-1R , BMP-4 .Results: IHC findings revealed high positive expression of TGFbeta-3, BMP-4 on fibroblasts, osteoproginetor cells,osteoblasts and osteocytes,high positive expression of VEGF on endothelial cells and high positive expression of IGF-1Ron endothelial cells and moderate expression on osteoblasts.Conclusions: The inhibition of proliferation and migration of osteoblasts, or differentiation from progenitor cells, isimplicated in the delay of teeth sockets healing. For this fact the results of the present study concluded that in thediabetic healing bone (rabbits of group B), the onset of cell proliferation and osteoblast differentiation were delayedand subsequently prolonged healing process when compared with the other groups (rabbits of group A,Cand D).
