Abstract

Character recognition is one of the important subjects in the field of Document Analysis and Recognition (DAR). The general objective of DAR research is to fully automate the process of entering and understanding printed or handwritten data into the computer. The proposed pattern recognition system consists of two-stage process. The first stage is feature extraction and the second stage is classification. Feature extraction is the measurement on a population of entities that will be used in recognition process. This assists the recognition stage by looking for features that allows fairly easy to distinguish between the different classes. Several different features have been used for recognition process. The set of proposed features that are used makes up a feature vector. These set of features are: the first feature is represented the number of character pixels (the summation of pixels), the second features is represented the width of each character in pixels, and the third feature represented the height of each character in pixels. Finally, Pattern recognition system classifies each member of the population on the basis of information contained in the feature vector. The results show that the suggested features gives higher accuracy in text and character recognition.

التعرف على الحروف هو احد الموضوعات المهمة جدا في مجال تحليل وتمييز الوثائق. الهدف العام من تحليل الوثائق بعملية السيطرة الحاسوبية هو إدخال وفهم البيانات المطبوعة أو المكتوبة بخط اليد في الحاسوب.تمييز الحروف يمكن أن يتم على النص المطبوع أو النص المكتوب بخط اليد. القدرة على التعرف على الحروف المطبوعة أليا أو بطريقة شبه آلية هو تطبيق واضح في العديد من المجالات. وإن بناء خوارزمية التمييز بدقة 100 ٪ عادة ماتكون مستحيلة في عالمنا المليء بالضوضاء وأنماط الخطوط المختلفة، فمن المهم لتصميم خوارزميات التعرف على الحروف اخذ هذه الإخفاقات بنظر الاعتبار بحيث عندما تتم الأخطاء( لا محالة) ، فإنه على الأقل تكون مفهومة ومتوقعة للعاملين بهذا المجال. نظام تمييز الأنماط المقترح يتكون من مرحلتين . المرحلة الأولى هي استخلاص الخصائص والمرحلة الثانية هي عملية التصنيف والتمييز. استخلاص الخصائص أو السمات كقيم عددية تميز كل حرف عن غيره ولقد تم اعتماد ثلاث سمات أساسية هي : عدد نقاط الحرف, طول الحرف, وعرض الحرف بالبكسل. أما عملية التمييز فتمت بمقارنة سمات الحروف غير المعروفة مع السمات الرئيسية لكل حرف في قاعدة البيانات . ولقد تم الحصول على نتائج بدقة 100% في حالة الصور الخالية من الضوضاء والتشوهات.

Abstract

An Optical Character Recognition system for Arabic language should recognize Arabic handwritten words. However, it is difficult to find a freely accessible and comprehensive database of all Arabic words that can be employed for this purpose. Therefore, it is more efficient to divide the Arabic words into sub-words or characters. As there is no comprehensive Arabic handwritten character database that is accessible free of charge, interested researchers can utilize the database developed as a part of this work in recognition system training and output testing.In the present paper, a database is presented containing scanned images of 700 Arabic handwritten characters, Hindi numbers used in Arabic countries, and some special characters utilized in Arabic alphabet, along with their different positions (e.g., standalone, initial, medial and terminal), different sizes, styles and font colors. The aim is to provide sufficient samples for all character shapes for software training, resulting in greater accuracy in the recognition phase.These forms were filled by students of the Applied Sciences College, University of Technology, Baghdad, Iraq and were scanned at the 200, 300, and 600 dpi resolution. A graphical user interface (GUI) software environment is employed to make the manipulation of the created database easier, and provide many image processing functions that are allowed to be built the database easier

Abstract

The proposed system OTSS (Object and Textconversion to Sound System) is designed to describeobjects, answer questions, read texts and offer guidance about blind people environment. Abstract

ABSTRACT:- On-line Arabic handwritten character recognition is one of the most challenging problems in pattern recognition field. By now, printed Arabic character recognition and on-line Arabic handwritten recognition has been gradually practical, while offline Arabic handwritten character recognition is still considered as "The hardest problem to conquer" in this field due to its own complexity. Recently, it becomes a hot topic with the release of database, which is the first text-level database and is concerned about the area of realistic Arabic handwritten character recognition. At the realistic Arabic handwritten text recognition and explore two aspects of the problem. Firstly, a system based on segmentation-recognition integrated framework wasdeveloped for Arabic handwriting recognition. Secondly, the parameters of embedded classifier initialed at character-level training were discriminatively re-trained at string level. The segmentation-recognition integrated framework runs as follows: the written character is first over-segmented into primitive segments, and then the consecutive segments are combined into candidate patterns. The embedded classifier is used to classify all the candidate patterns in segmentation lattice. According to Genetic Algorithm (Crossover, mutation, and population), the system outputs the optimal path in segmentation-recognition lattice, which is the final recognition result. The embedded classifier is first trained at character level on isolated character and then the parameters are updated at string level on string samples.Keywords: Arabic Character, handwritten recognition, Genetic Algorithm.

الخلاصةان تشخیص كتابة الاحرف العربیة في الزمن الحقیقي یعتبر من اكثر التحدیات في مجال التعرف على الاشكال. وهناك دراسات حول التشخیص للاحرف العربیة ما زالت تعتبر من المشاكل المعقده في هذا المجال. الهدف من البحث هو التشخیص للاحرف العربیة بخط الید واستكشاف الجوانب الثلاثة في بحثنا، اولا ان النظامیقوم على ت شخیص بشكل مجزء ضمن الاطار المتكامل للتعرف على خط الید باللغة العربیة، ثانیا،ً ان البارامیترات الخاصة بالتصنیف لعملیة البدء عند مستوى التعلیم لحالة الحرف المخطوط یدویا تقوم بتمییز مستوى الحرف عند مستوىالتدریب.تشخیص المقاطع في اللوحة المهیئة لكتابة الحرف تكون حسب التالي: كتابة الحر ف المقاطع الاولیة، وبعد ذلك یتم جمع المقاطع على التوالي في نموذج ترشیحي.و ثم یتم تصنیف جمیع النماذج في شبكه عبار ة عن مقاطع. وبالاستناد الى الخوارزمیة الجینیة (التبادل، الطفرات، والتوزیع)، فان الاخراج یكون ناتج عن المسار الامثل في للنموذج الترشیحي وهي التي تعتبر الناتج النهائي. یتم تدریب المصنف الأول على مستوى جزءا لا یتجزأ وذلك بعزل حرف على حرف ومن ثم یتم تحدیث المعلمات على مستوى السلسلة على عینات تم حفظها في قاعدة بیانات لمقارنتها مستقبلا بالادخال الجدید.
