Abstract

The application of optimization techniques is essential for a manufacturing unit to respond effectively to ruthless competitiveness and increasing demand of quality product in the market. In this study, multi-objective optimization on the basis of ratio analysis (MOORA) technique was used to solve different decision-making problems and optimize the machining parameters in the wire electrical discharge machining processes for different materials. Five decision making problems requiring determination of optimum machining parameters using different techniques are considered in this paper. In all these cases, the obtained results using the MOORA technique compared with those suggested by the past investigators and the results demonstrate the simplicity, suitability, possibility, and flexibility of this technique when finding the solution for different complex decision-making problems during machining setting.

ان تطبيق التقنيات الخاصة للحصول على الاختيار الامثل تعتبر من الاساسيات لوحدة التصنيع وذلك لتعزيز القدرة التنافسية والحصول على جودة عالية للمنتج. يتضمن موضوع البحث استخدام تقنية التحليل النسبي(MOORA) لحل المشاكل اتخاذ القرار خلال الانتاج وللحصول على الاختيارالامثل لعدد من المتغيرات والعوامل في ان واحد خلال عمليات التشغيل باستخدام التفريغ الكهربائي ولمواد مختلفة. حيث تم تطبيق تقنية (MOORA) على خمس بحوث سابقة لعمليات التشغيل باستخدام التفريغ الكهربائي والتي اعتمد فيها الباحثين على طرق اخرى في ايجاد الاختيار الامثل لمتغيرات التشغيل. وبعد مقارنة النتائج التي تم الحصول عليها باستخدام تقنية التحليل النسبي مع نتائج البحوث المذكورة تبين ان استخدام هذه التقنية هي الابسط والاكثر ملائمة في تحديد الامثلية لعدد من متغيرات عمليات التشغيل المعقدة وكذلك الافضل من بين طرق التحليل الاخرى في ايجاد الحلول لمشاكل اتخاذ القرار خلال عملية التشغيل .

Abstract

Wire electrical discharge machining WEDM is one of the major non –traditional machining processes the application of WEDM has increased since 1970s', it has many application in the machining of conductive materials for production of aero space/ air craft, die/mold and medical parts ,this is due to high machining productivity, dimensional accuracy and surface quality ,in this study medium carbon steel 33 was machined by WEDM ,the experimental study determined the effect of pulse on time, pulse off time, servo feed rate on machined surface finish and material removal rate .the selected ranges of pulse on time ,pulse off time, servo feed rate were 8-11-14 sec,10-14-16 sec,2-3-5 mm/min respectively ,the results of present study determined that the most influential machining parameter on surface roughness was pulse on time, other parameters were less effective and the nearly only influential machining parameter on material removal rate was servo feed rate in the WEDM using brass wire of 0.25 mm.

عملية التشغيل بالتفريغ الكهربائي باستخدام السلك للقطع هي إحدى العمليات الرئيسية للتشغيل اللاتقليدي وقد اتسعت تطبيقاتها منذ عام 1970 حيث تستخدم مع المعادن الموصلة لتشمل صناعة المركبات ا لفضائية -الطائرات –القوالب –والأجزاء الطبية وذلك لكونها تتميز بإنتاجية عالية ودقة إبعاد وجودة السطح0في هذا البحث تم استخدام طريقة القطع بالسلك باستخدام التفريغ الكهربائي لتشغيل معدن (ستيل 33) وقد اظهرت التجارب تأثير كل من عرض الشرارة – عدد الشرارات والتغذية على جودة السطح ومعدل ازالة المعدن وكانت المديات المستخدمة لكل من هذه المتغيرات 8-11-14 ثا-10 -14-16 ثا -2-3-5 ملمدقيقة0 على الترتيب0 وكانت النتائج بأن اكثر المتغيرات تأثيرا على جودة السطح هو عرض الشرارة نسبة لباقي المتغيرات المدروسة0 وكذلك تشير الى ان المتغير الوحيد المؤثر تقريبا على معدل ازالة المعدن هو معدل التغذية مع العلم ان عملية التشغيل تمت بأستخدام سلك براص بقطر 0.25 ملم.

Abstract

Machining of hard metal is difficult by conventional method to obtain high accuracy where the dimensional accuracy is the main factor. Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) extensively used, which is mostly used in machining of conductive materials by using precisely controlled sparks that occur between a very thin wire and a workpiece in the presence of a dielectric fluid. This study serves in studying surface roughness (SR) of high speed steel (HSS) using taguchi method to design the experiment, this was achieved with utilizing different wire cut machining parameters and study the behavior of these control parameters such as pulse duration (μs), pulse interval (μs), Servo feed and Servo voltage (V) on surface roughness. It can be noticed that when servo voltage and servo feed increase the surface roughness decreases and when pulse duration and pulse interval increase the surface roughness increases too, and It was found with using taguchi parameter design that the best machining variables of combination setting is Servo Voltage (22) volts, Pulse on time (110) μs, servo feed (450) mm/min and Pulse off time (30) μs to reach to the minimum value of surface roughness and hence better surface finish.

Abstract

It is vital to study the impact of heat since it has an unwanted phenomenon on the operating life of parts produced, which is in turn effect the cost of production. when dimension accuracy is the primary function Wire cut machining comprehensively used specially when machining hard metal by using precisely controlled sparks that occur between a very thin wire and a workpiece in the presence of a dielectric fluid. The aim of this research is to study the effects of some Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (WEDM) variables on heat affected zone, white layer and Surface Roughness (SR) of high speed steel using ANOVA method to analyze the behavior of control parameters such as pulse on time (μs), current and wire tension. Experimental investigations separates into two main parts in the first one the wire electrical discharge machining process was accomplished on smart EDM (Electra wire cut machine), and in the second part the roughness of the machined samples surface was tested and the samples were prepared to be measured. The results shows that the heat affected zone and the white layer are affected with the risen of the current and pulse on time values more than the risen in wire tension values, as well as the wire tension affects the surface roughness more than the current and pulse on time.

Abstract

This work is focused on some affecting parameters in Wire electrical discharge machining process for AISI 1012 steel by using brass wire and zinc coated brass wire with 0.25mm diameter. Pulse on time, pulse off time, spark gap voltage and servo feed had been studied as input parameters while wire wear ratio, metal removal rate and surface roughness were the outputs. The experiments showed that increasing pulse on time will increase wire wear ratio, metal removal rate and surface roughness. While, increasing pulse off time, spark gap voltage and servo feed will cause a little increase in wire wear ratio, decrease metal removal rate and improve surface roughness. Artificial Neural Network had been used to predict the process outputs for 16 samples which gave good results and agreement with experimental results. Analysis of Variance had been used to find the contribution of the process parameters on outputs.

Abstract

Nontraditional machining processes are used for machining too hard, brittle and strong conductive materials. The aim of this research is to achieve an economic and efficient machining process in machining HSS by using wire cut machine. Experimental investigations were conducted on WEDM with using different machining parameters such as (pulse duration (μs), pulse interval (μs), Servo feed and Servo voltage (V)). The experiments were designed according to DOE, which is done by using Taguchi design parameter method to investigate the optimum machining parameters, which gives the best values for MRR and CS in order to achieve an economic and efficient machining process. The results obtained from the experimental work show that the optimum values of MRR and CS are obtained with the best values of Servo voltage (V), pulse duration (μs), pulse interval (μs), Servo feed and which they are presented with (A1, B3, C2 and D3) which they are equal to (20 v, 120 μs, 35 μs, and 450 mm/min).
