Abstract

Adsorption experiments were carried out using two different low-cost sorbent materials, date seeds and olive seeds. These sorbents used as a single phase (not as mixture) to remove cadmium ions from simulated wastewater by adsorption process. The equilibrium time was found at 2 hr. The experiments include different parameters such sorbent type and weight and contact time. It was found that both of olive seed and date seed have approximately the same adsorption capacity (qm) with 15.644 mg/g and 15.2112 mg/g, respectively. Equilibrium isotherms and kinetic studies have been carried out. Langmuir isotherm model better fits the experimental data compared with the Freundlich isotherm for olive seed, while Freundlich isotherm fits for date seed .A pseudo-second order kinetic model was appropriate to the experimental data for both seeds. It can be concluded that the olive seed and date seed could be a good sorbent for the removal of cadmium ions from wastewater.

Abstract

In this study, the determination of total phenolic and antioxidant activity of the wastes of Olea europaea L. wastes was determined obtained from the process of pressing and extraction of oil from the fruits of O. europaea L. which are peels, seeds and pomace (peels and seeds). Five solvents where used in the extraction process to identify the best method for the extraction. The results of the present study showed that the type of solvent in the extraction process and the selected part of the waste have important role in determining of phenolic compounds as well as antioxidant activity of the pomace, peels and seeds. Hydroethanolic extracts (50% water) was the best in phenolic compounds extraction comparison with other solvents (water at room temperature, boiling distilled water and hydrochloric acid diluted with distilled water by (1% and 5%). In contrast, extracts from the pomace, peels and seeds using 5% hydrochloric acid had higher antioxidant activity through their ability to inhibit the activity of the synthetic free radical DPPH (2.2-diphenyl-1-pcriylhydrazal) when compared with other solvents. The extracts of peels showed significantly higher (P ≤ 0.05) amounts of the phenolic compounds and the antiradical activity against DPPH than those prepared from the pomace and seeds.

Abstract

This work focuses on the study the effect of data seeds (DS) and olive seeds (OS) on thermal and water absorption properties of epoxy resin. Olive and dates seeds were added to epoxy matrix at weight fraction (0, 8, 13&18%wt) with grain size (300, 450 & 600µm). The composite specimens were prepared by Hand-Layup technique according to standard test. The results show that the thermal and water absorption properties of composites increasing with increase weight fraction of particles. Also its found the higher value of thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, specific heat and water absorption happened at ( =18 wt%) and grain size (300µm) for specimens reinforced with olive seeds. The mathematical model results show that the weight fraction of particles have higher effect than grain size on properties.

يتركز هذا العمل على دراسة تأثيرمسحوق نوى الزيتون والتمر على الخواص الحرارية وامتصاصية الماء لمادة الايبوكسي. تم أضافة نوى الزيتون والتمر الى مادة الاساس الايبوكسي بالكسور الوزنية التالية (0, 8, 13 &18%wt) مع حجم حبيبي (mµ300, 450 &600). حضرت العينات المتراكبة بطريقة الخلط اليدوي حسب المواصفة القياسية لكل فحص. بينت النتائج بإن الخواص الحرارية وامتصاصية الماء للمتراكبات تزداد بزيادة الكسر الوزني للمساحيق. ايضاً وجد بان اعلى قيم لمعامل التوصيل الحراري, الانتشار الحراري ,الحرارة النوعية وامتصاصية الماء كانت عند كسر وزني (wt %18) وحجم حبيبي (mµ 300)عند التقوية بمسحوق نوى الزيتون. بينت نتائج الموديل رياضي بإن الكسور الوزنية لمادة التقوية كانت ذو تأثير أكثر من الحجم الحبيبي على الخواص.
